Bandar Seri Begawan – On the 22nd June 2009, E-Business Leadership Forum (EBLF) conducted its first dialogue session, with the private sector which was held at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom, The Empire Hotel and Country Club. This dialogue is one of the platforms for EBLF to conduct its public consultation with business communities especially the SMEs to build better understanding and to actively involve them as EBLF partners and stakeholders in formulating e-business strategies and implementation plan.

The main objective of this dialogue session is to understand what e-Business is as well as to exchange views on what is expected of e-Business in Brunei Darussalam. It is noted that the understanding of what e-business is may vary from an individual to individual as to business to business. In order to obtain a same level of understanding and to be in par with other countries, a dialogue session with the local businesses is important and is considered to be good practice.  Aside from gathering information and sharing experiences, this dialogue session is also to prepare for the formulation of e-Business Strategic Implementation Plan and the shaping of Work Programme for e-Business in Brunei Darussalam.

Bandar Seri Begawan - Lack of qualified personnel, lack of financial and skilled resources as well as inconvenient and expensive Internet accessibility are some of the weaknesses e-businesses in Brunei face.

Haji Yahkup bin Haji Menudin, the chairman of the e-Business Interim Committee, revealed this in his presentation on the e-Business Interim Report when he spoke about the SWOT Analysis (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) for e-Business in Brunei.

Among other weaknesses are lack of business model, lack of awareness/education in security, payment gateway and legal protection, many business are not 100 per cent ready and the majority of SMEs still enjoy doing business the traditional way.

Haji Yahkup disclosed this during the E-Business Leadership Forum's (EBLF) first dialogue with the private sector at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.
